Alright Jet folks, your day has finally come. We have wrapped up our 5th round of testing multiple jet outboards on the Sherpa test hull and we are really pleased with the results. We actually wrapped up a couple months back and wanted to make some changes and make another set of test runs with our final pick. So keeping true to our "Swiss Army Knife of Boats" heritage, we've been out on the road for the past two months showing everyone what a great technical skiff the Sherpa is under prop power, now lets talk jets;
The Towee Sherpa really shines as a Jet Skiff. Her tough, lightweight hull hull is efficient and floats in a mere 3" of water with fuel, gear and trolling motor batteries. Anytime a that a jet boat builder tells you how shallow a jet will run, you need to understand that it is an educated guess at best. It is almost impossible to measure accurately and is HIGHY dependant on mounting, weight distribution and speed. Earlier today, with a full load of fuel (aft tank model), 280lb captain, full gear, cooler and a big group 27 lead acid trolling motor battery, I aimed for a stick on a gravel bar, hit it and then went back, got out of the boat and measured the water at that exact location. It was 4" deep. Not just in that one spot but that entire area of the bar.
One of the best things about the Sherpa is that she runs flat even at low speed and with only one person aboard (review specs on our XL test captain above ...). No more slogging bow high at low speeds like you see from almost every "jet sled" and/or "jet skiff" on the market be it aluminum, plascore or plastic. She runs just as shallow slow as she does fast. Her flared hull aft replaces a traditional tunnel and results in shallower draft and more clean water directly to the pump - which equals better performance all the way around.
And speaking of power plants, we are SUPER impressed with the new Tohatsu 50/35 Jet. It is light , smooth and powerful - this jet does everything that you ask of it. Tohatsu has a great warranty and they stand behind their products. Look for way more Tohatsu Jet powered Sherpas in the future - they are a great match.
Now is a great time to give us a call at 931-743-4860, email us todd@toweeboats.com or shoot us an IG message and lets talk about where your new Towee Jet can take you. Let's talk skiffs -and jets.
